How to Get Started at Heavens Piano

Beginning piano lessons is an exciting step, and having the right tools and clear expectations from the start helps students build confidence and progress successfully. Below you’ll find what is needed to begin lessons and how the enrollment process works from start to finish.

What you need to get started

A full-size piano with 88 weighted keys is essential for developing proper technique, hand strength, and musical expression. Weighted keys allow students to learn correct touch and control, which is not possible on smaller or unweighted keyboards.

Keyboards with fewer than 88 keys or without proper weighting can limit a student’s progress and prevent them from developing the sensitivity required for expressive playing. Families do not need to invest in an expensive instrument right away. Many free or low-cost acoustic pianos can be found locally, and a quality beginner digital piano with fully weighted keys can serve students well for the first few years. As students advance, an acoustic piano will eventually be needed to support higher-level study.

A metronome is also required to help students develop steady rhythm, accuracy, and consistency in their practice. Families may purchase a physical metronome, use a free metronome app, or access the Google Metronome tool online.

All beginner method books are included in the Registration and Music Deposit fee, ensuring that students have the correct materials ready for their very first lesson.

How to get started

The first step is to contact the studio by email to schedule a complimentary Meet & Greet. This short meeting allows families to meet the teacher, ask questions, and discuss the student’s age, experience, and musical goals.

If the Meet & Greet confirms that the studio is a good fit, available lesson days and times will be discussed. After the meeting, the teacher will email the registration form and studio policies. These forms will reflect the lesson time discussed during the Meet & Greet.

Families will then complete the registration form and submit the registration fee and tuition if lessons are beginning that same month, or follow the payment arrangement discussed during the meeting.

Once all forms are completed and fees are received, the lesson time will be officially placed on the studio schedule, provided it does not conflict with another appointment. At that point, the student is fully enrolled and ready to begin lessons.

Starting piano lessons is an investment in discipline, creativity, and long-term musical growth. With the right preparation and a clear path forward, students can begin their piano journey with confidence and excitement.
